What do you get when you combine tennis, badminton, and ping-pong? Only the greatest game ever named after a dog: pickleball! A hybrid of badminton, tennis, and table-tennis pickleball is a 3-in-1 game, played with wooden paddles and a perforated plastic ball in a normal Badminton court or on any hard surface with a 3-foot net. It’s an exciting way for people of all ages to stay active and to meet new people!

We offer 6 indoor Pickleball courts at Whitney Recreation Center; cost is $3.25 (plus tax) per session, or 20 pass punch cards are available for $50.00 plus tax. And, seasonally, check out our outdoor courts at Calvary Hill Park! Nets will be set up in mid-April (weather permitting); courts are available 8:00 a.m. until dusk.

Pickleball Courts at Virginia Indoor Tennis And Pickleball Club

Pickleball Courts at Virginia Indoor Tennis And Pickleball Club

In December of 2004, George Erickson began to collect the names of people who might be interested in having indoor tennis courts.  George sent a letter to those people and 3 years later the project was completed.  The first Board that worked for 3 years to complete the project included: Kevin Engman, George Erickson, Dave Gunderson, Renee Galaski, Bob Prittinen, Tom Prosen, and Jim Prittinen. Initially, three possibilities were discussed for bringing indoor tennis to Virginia.  It was decided that Southside Park would be the location and two of the outdoor courts would be utilized.

We raised approximately $700,000 through a variety of fundraising methods.  The City of Virginia financed the remaining costs of our $1,000,000 facility.

A Grand Opening was held in the fall of 2007, and on September 1st, 2007, our doors were open for business.

We would like to thank everyone that helped bring indoor tennis to Virginia, MN. With four indoor courts and six newly resurfaced outdoor courts, we feel that we have the nicest tennis facility north of Minneapolis.
